Weekend in ATX

I put this together specifically for your Austin weekend so you have the restaurants I would actually send you to, the easiest concert-night logistics, and a few options depending on what matters most in the moment. You do not need to use all of it. Think of this as your little Austin cheat sheet.

Friday + Saturday
Aug. 14-15 2026 · Austin, Texas

The weekend at a glance.

This is the quick version. Each day has its own page with the details, links, options, and my reasoning behind each recommendation.

I even broke down recommendations based on the area you're staying, so if that helps narrow things down, check it out here.

Friday · August 14

Dinner + the show

4:30 PMEarly seafood or steak dinner. Your timing gives you a better shot at getting into one of the good places.
OptionalOne pre-show cocktail if dinner wraps comfortably. Do not rush dinner just to fit this in.
6:30 PMDoors open at Moody Center.
7:30 PMLionel Richie + Earth, Wind & Fire.
~11 PMNightcap if you still have energy, or go back and call it a very successful night.
Saturday · August 15

Market + brunch

MorningSleep in, or do an optional farmers market if you are up and want to wander.
BrunchVanHorn's is my top pick as of recently because I keep getting consistently great feedback from clients. I have not made it in personally yet, and I need to fix that. Paperboy is an Austin staple, and Phoebe's Downtown would be my next pick. It is not necessarily cheap, but it has a more down-to-earth vibe with a really great all-day menu. If you end up staying farther north, Phoebe's North Austin may make more sense.
AfterIf you are still out, I included a few lunch options and Saturday extras worth knowing about.
Booking note

The best restaurants in Austin can book quickly, especially on a weekend. Your early Friday dinner timing helps a lot, but I would still reserve sooner rather than later once you decide what sounds best.

I gave you several dinner options on purpose. They are not interchangeable. Each one wins for a different reason, whether your priority is the easiest logistics, the most Austin-feeling meal, the prettiest setting, or a serious steak.

OptionalOne drinkBefore or after, depending on timing.

The big line under each restaurant is the reason it made the list. Addresses open in Google Maps, and every menu, reservation, and Instagram link opens separately so this guide stays right where you left it.

01Jenica's top overall pick

Skipjack Oyster

Best overall choice

If you want the easiest combination of polished seafood, strong service, a beautiful room, and simple concert-night logistics, this is where I would start. It feels elevated without being stiff, the raw bar is a real draw, and complimentary Westin valet for the first two hours makes the night easier.

People consistently rave about: oysters, New England clam chowder, crab hush puppies, and lobster mac & cheese.
310 E 5th St, Austin Downtown · The Westin Austin
Excellent fit for a 4:30 PM dinner. Dress: No strict published code found. Elevated casual works perfectly.
02For oysters + martinis

Bill's Oyster

If you want dinner to feel fun, polished, and not overly formal

Bill's is smaller and a little more cocktail-bar-forward than Skipjack. I like it when the goal is oysters, seafood, a very good martini, and a lively downtown room without committing to a long steakhouse-style dinner.

People consistently rave about: oysters, Bill’s Burger, tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, and very cold martinis.
205 W 3rd St, Austin Downtown · 2nd Street area
Easy timing for an early dinner. Dress: No strict published code found. Polished casual is right for the room.
03Most distinctly Austin

Este

If the food experience matters most

This is the least traditional seafood option and one of the most memorable. Este does coastal Mexican seafood with ceviche, aguachile, charcoal-grilled fish, oysters, and excellent cocktails. It is gorgeous, genuinely delicious, and one of the easiest dinner-to-Moody combinations on this list.

Known for: aguachiles, tuna tiradito, the Cachetada taco, and live-fire seafood.
2113 Manor Rd, Austin East Austin · Manor Road
One of the easiest routes to Moody. Dress: No strict published code found. Chic Austin casual fits.
04Austin classic

Clark's Oyster Bar

Best if you're coming from West Austin or want a classic oyster bar

Clark's is established, intimate, and reliably excellent. Think pristine oysters, lobster rolls, crudo, fish, caviar, and martinis in a room that already feels beloved. I especially like this choice if you are staying west of downtown.

People consistently rave about: oysters, lobster roll, crudo, shrimp toast, and the Gruyère burger. Lemon meringue pie gets a lot of love too.
1200 W 6th St, Austin Clarksville · West 6th
Dinner begins at 5 PM, so I would skip a pre-show drink. Dress: No strict published code found. Elevated casual fits the see-and-be-seen room.
05Best patio

Perla's

If you want South Congress to be part of the night

Perla's is the choice when the setting matters. The oak-covered patio and South Congress location make it feel like a proper Austin night out, and the seafood is consistently strong. It is the furthest option from Moody, so the tradeoff is atmosphere versus convenience.

Known for: oysters, ahi tuna tostadas, wood-grilled seafood, lobster dishes, and that oak-shaded South Congress patio.
1400 S Congress Ave, Austin South Congress
Build in more concert traffic time here. Dress: No strict published code found. Resort-chic or elevated casual works beautifully.
06Steakhouse wildcard

J. Carver's

If steak is actually the priority, but seafood still matters

J. Carver's is an Oyster Bar & Chophouse, which is exactly why it earns a place here. It pairs a raw and oyster bar with an open wood-fire grill, premium steaks, prime fish, shellfish, and a serious wine list. It is a strong choice when one person wants steak and the other still wants seafood.

People consistently rave about: the steaks, baked-potato gnocchi, blue-crab fried rice, Dover sole, and raw bar.
509 Rio Grande St, Austin Downtown · West 6th district
Opens at 5 PM, so book the first seating and skip a pre-show cocktail. Dress: Business casual is encouraged. No tank tops, gym shorts, or athletic wear.

Before or after.

The best pre-show drink and the best post-concert nightcap are not necessarily the same place. I would use these differently.

Before the show

The Roosevelt Room

My top polished pre-show cocktail pick

Seated service, an excellent cocktail program, and a grown, sophisticated room. A safe bet if you want one beautiful drink before the concert.

Known for: the historically organized classics menu and signatures like the Cigar Box. This is the pick if the actual cocktail matters as much as the room.
LOGISTICS Warehouse District / Downtown · Best dinner pairing: Bill's Oyster · roughly 0.4 mi between them · roughly 1.5 mi from Roosevelt Room to Moody Center.

The Peacock at Austin Proper

Best if the room itself matters

A beautiful hotel-bar moment with polished Mediterranean surroundings. This is a lovely pre-dinner or pre-show option.

Worth knowing: The Peacock sits inside Austin Proper, whose interiors were conceived by Kelly Wearstler. The dips and mezze get consistent praise, and the pomegranate martini is one of the signature cocktails.
LOGISTICS Downtown / 2nd Street · Best dinner pairing: Bill's Oyster · roughly 0.5 mi between them · roughly 2 mi from The Peacock to Moody Center.
After the concert

Powder Room

Most exclusive-feeling late-night option

Do not be intimidated by the nightclub energy. Powder Room is a discreet cocktail lounge that gets livelier Thursday through Saturday. They check phones into secure lock boxes, so the room stays unusually present and private. This is the option if you want music, drinks, conversation, and a little dancing without a typical club feel.

Known for: the phone-free experience, moody room, crafted cocktails, and a livelier music-forward feel later Thursday through Saturday. The menu changes, so I would not lock you into one drink.
LOGISTICS Warehouse District / Downtown · Best dinner pairing geographically: Bill's Oyster · roughly 0.4 mi between them · roughly 1.5 mi from Moody Center to Powder Room.

Here Nor There

Most immersive hidden-bar experience

Reservation-forward, intimate, moody, and memorable. Pick this when you want a true nightcap destination.

Known for: a hidden/code-entry experience and rotating high-concept cocktail menus. This is the most experience-driven option, so reservations matter.
LOGISTICS Downtown / Brazos near The Driskill · Best dinner pairing: Skipjack Oyster · roughly 0.3 mi between them · roughly 1.2 mi from Moody Center to Here Nor There.

Equipment Room

The music-lover pick

A hi-fi listening bar inside Hotel Magdalena. It feels especially right after Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Known for: the hi-fi vinyl listening experience, inventive cocktails, Espresso Martini, and Japanese-meets-Texas bar snacks.
LOGISTICS South Congress / Music Lane · Best dinner pairing: Perla's · roughly 0.6 mi between them · roughly 3 mi from Moody Center to Equipment Room.

The Roosevelt Room

The dependable before-or-after fallback

If you would rather remember one cocktail address instead of several, make it this one.

Downtown · about 1.5 mi from Moody · easiest with Bill's Oyster.

Saturday morning.

Saturday morning.

Sleep in if you want. If you are up and feel like wandering before brunch, I pulled the Saturday markets that actually make sense depending on where you are staying.

Optional morning wander.

All three are Saturday markets. I would choose based on location, not because you need to fit one more thing into the weekend.

Best if you're downtown

SFC Farmers' Market Downtown

Saturday · 9 AM-1 PM
Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St. Local farmers, ranchers, food producers, and artisans right downtown.

Best if you're south

SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley

Saturday · 9 AM-1 PM
Toney Burger Center, 3200 Jones Rd. A bigger South Austin option with local food, produce, and artisans.

Best if you're west / Lake Austin

Barton Creek Farmers Market

Saturday · 9 AM-1 PM
2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy. Austin's original farmers market with fresh food, artisan goods, and live music.

Where I'd brunch.

These are in the exact order I would recommend them. The ranking is food, atmosphere, ease, and whether I think the experience feels worth the spend.

01

VanHorn's

My top brunch recommendation

Gorgeous steakhouse energy with a brunch menu that actually delivers. The stuffed French toast is divine, but I would also look at the smoked salmon rösti, pancakes with bourbon maple syrup, steak and eggs, eggs Benedict, and the crab cake sandwich. Their espresso martini is excellent for the price, and they can even put a photo of your face on top.

People are raving about: stuffed French toast, smoked-salmon rösti, pancakes, martinis, and the NY-style cheesecake.
02

Paperboy

Best buzzy Austin brunch

If you want a classic Austin brunch experience rather than a hotel or steakhouse feel, this is the move. Popular for a reason, and the food holds up.

Known for: Chicken & Biscuit, Texas Hash, Cinnamon Toast, the Paperboy Pancake, and the chocolate chip cookie. The cookie absolutely has its own fan club.
03

Mattie's

The prettiest brunch experience

Historic house, huge oak trees, beautiful grounds, and actual peacocks wandering around. Pick this if you want brunch to feel like an experience.

Known for: the historic Green Pastures setting, peacocks, French toast, fried chicken, and the 1965 Milk Punch.
04

Josephine House

Best charming, quieter option

A polished little Clarksville cottage with a pretty patio and a more intimate pace.

People rave about: lemon-ricotta pancakes, focaccia with whipped feta, and the intimate cottage/patio setting.
05

Citizen All Day

Best North Central / Rosedale brunch option

Australian-inspired, stylish, and a little funkier and more casual than Mattie's without feeling like a cheap brunch. This is the pick if you are staying north of downtown or want something in the Burnet / Rosedale area.

People rave about: banana bread French toast, the Big Brekkie, smashed avo, the cheddar biscuit brekkie sandwich, and coffee.
06

Phoebe's Diner

Not upscale compared with the others, but so good

Modern Texas diner, generous portions, and real comfort-food brunch. This is the trust-me-it-is-good option.

People rave about: brisket breakfast burrito, fried chicken biscuit, chicken-fried steak, Bananas Foster French toast, and thick-cut bacon.
If brunch turns into a full Austin day

Stay a little longer.

Aba

Best patio + linger-over-lunch option

Mediterranean, fresh, and one of the prettiest patios on South Congress.

Known for: hummus, whipped feta, falafel, and Brussels sprouts. Bonus: it is on South Congress at Music Lane, so this is an easy choice if you also want to shop, walk around, or spend some time on SoCo.

Suerte

Best food-forward Austin option

House-made masa, local ingredients, and a room that feels cool without trying too hard.

Known for: suadero tacos, house-made masa, tuna tiradito, and agave cocktails.

Spread & Co.

Best casual sandwiches + fresh baked goods

Part café, part specialty shop, part charcuterie destination. Great sandwiches, coffee, baked treats, cheeses, and fresh goods.

People rave about: the mortadella sandwich, grilled cheese, charcuterie, and brown butter chocolate chip cookie. (In my opinion, the best brown butter chocolate chip cookie in Austin. It is literally divine. Most locals would agree, though.)

04 / Coffee

Coffee, depending on the mood.

Quack's 43rd Street Bakery

Hyde Park · Austin bakery institution
Known for: cookies, pies, cakes by the slice, and pastries. The chocolate chip cookie is always a good move. Chocolate pecan pie is seasonal, but if they have it, get it.

Swedish Hill

Multiple Austin locations
Go for: the cinnamon roll and almond croissant. This is the bougier café-bakery option, with coffee, pastries, breads, and sandwiches if you want more than just something sweet.

Paperboy Cookie

Yes, it deserves a second mention
Good to know: even if you do not choose Paperboy for brunch, the chocolate chip cookie has a real following of its own.
06 / Food Trucks

Multiple cuisines, one stop.

Always Something

75 Rainey Street
Food truck park: Veracruz All Natural, JABS Burgers, Banh Mi & Beyond, and Bussin' Buns are all currently listed here. Vendor hours vary. Veracruz: go for the migas taco. JABS: the burger is not filler, it has real local acclaim.

Hyde Park · Easy two-truck stop
Why it is useful: Salty Blonde Bakery and VACO House share the same address. Grab cinnamon rolls or that caramel pecan sticky bun, then Venezuelan arepas, empanadas, tequeños, or coffee from VACO if you want savory too.

ATX Tips.

ATX Tips.

This is the part of the guide that can change. Weather, weekend happenings, and a few useful live links are all here so you know what to expect without overplanning the weekend.

If I know your area, this is how I narrow the guide

Where you're staying matters.

If you're downtown or near Lady Bird Lake

Friday: Skipjack or Bill's Oyster. Saturday: VanHorn's or Phoebe's Downtown.

If you're in East Austin

Friday: Este. Saturday: Paperboy. If you stay out longer: Suerte or Spread & Co.

If you're on South Congress or south of the lake

Friday: Perla's. Saturday: Mattie's. Lunch: Aba.

If you're in West Austin or near Lake Austin

Friday: Clark's Oyster Bar. Saturday: Josephine House. Give yourselves a little more concert-night travel time.

If you're in North Central / Rosedale

Saturday: Citizen All Day. This is the Australian-inspired neighborhood brunch option and gives you a good reason to stay north of downtown instead of driving central just for breakfast.

If you're near The Domain or farther north

For Saturday brunch, Phoebe's Gracy Farms is the easiest northern alternative. For Friday, I would still come central early and choose the dinner you actually want rather than sacrificing the experience just to stay close to the Airbnb.

Forecast checked Aug. 12

It is going to be hot.

You already know Texas heat, so I will spare you the obvious. Friday does have a chance for a spot afternoon thunderstorm, though, so I would still check the live forecast before getting dressed.

Friday · Aug. 14
99° / 76°

Very warm with bright sun intervals. A thunderstorm is possible in one or two spots during the afternoon.

Saturday · Aug. 15
100° / 76°

Partly sunny and very warm. If you do a farmers market, I would go early rather than waiting until noon.

Jenica note: You already know the drill with Texas heat. If you do anything outdoors, especially the trail or a farmers market, I would just do it earlier in the morning. I would still keep a light layer handy because Austin restaurants and Moody Center can feel freezing after being outside.

If you have extra time.

These are the Saturday options I think are most useful to know about. You absolutely do not need to fill the weekend just because Austin has something happening.

Sat · 8:30 AM-5 PM

City-Wide Vintage Sale

Palmer Events Center. Austin's long-running vintage market with 45,000 square feet of vintage vendors, furniture, collectibles, clothing, and the wonderfully random.

Details
Sat · 8:15 PM

Singin' in the Rain

Closing night of the 2026 Zilker Summer Musical at the Hillside Theater. Outdoor Austin tradition, free admission, donations encouraged.

Details
Sunday · 7:30 PM

Austin FC vs. FC Dallas

If the trip stretches into Sunday, the Austin FC home match was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday at Q2 Stadium.

Official update

Actually worth it if you stay longer.

Not a tourist checklist. These are the few extras I would actually keep in your back pocket if you end up with more time and feel like doing something.

Art + Lake Austin

Laguna Gloria

Fourteen acres of art, sculpture, trees, and Lake Austin views. This is my favorite option if you want something beautiful and low-pressure that does not feel like a tourist stop. Saturday hours are 9 AM-3 PM.

Rooftop + View

Nido at The Loren

If you want one rooftop stop, this is the one I would choose. Go for a drink and the Lady Bird Lake / downtown skyline view rather than feeling like you need to make it another full meal.

South Congress

Only the Wild Ones

A music-forward, outdoor listening and wine bar on South Congress. I would use this as an optional stop for a glass of wine or cocktail while you are already in the area, not something you need to structure the whole day around.

Best reason to go: an easy South Congress wine/cocktail stop with music when you are already in the neighborhood. Optional, not a destination you need to build the day around.
Morning Walk

Lady Bird Lake / Butler Trail

Do not make this a 10-mile mission. I would do a pretty 30-60 minute stretch along the water, or part of the Boardwalk, earlier in the morning before it gets hot. You are Texas natives, so you already know why I am saying morning.
